I Like Scary Movies
There’s nothing better to me than snuggling in with my pup Thor and watching a good horror movie.
My obsession with horror movies started when I was 11 years old. My best friend at the time was spending the night, and like we did in the 90s and early 2000s we went to this magical place called Blockbuster and went to find a movie to watch.
She pointed out the movie The Ring and I wasn’t so sure, I hadn’t really seen a scary movie. I used to have to turn off the trailers when they came on TV because I would get to freaked out. But she went on and on about how great it was, so I told myself it was time I faced my fears and I begged my mom to rent it.
When we got home we waited until it was dark, to add to the experience, and put the tape in…and I fell in love. To this day The Ring is my all time favorite scary movie. The story line is great but it’s also very sentimental to me.
So when my good friend Clarissa sent me a post on instagram about an art exhibit called I Like Scary Movie opening here in LA I knew I had to go.
It’s the same idea as The Ice Cream Museum or 29 Rooms. It’s basically a bunch of great selfie back drops, but the art is beautiful. Like how do people create stuff like that?
The tickets were only $40 each. I was nervous about crowds because it was opening weekend and we were going on a Sunday but we were pleasantly surprised that we could make it through with ease and really take out time.
The exhibit has art from the movies The Shinning, It, Nightmare on Elm Street, Beetlejuice, and The Lost Boys. And boy was I in love! They had all the classic scenes like the elevator scene, the REDRUM door and a giant Freddie Kruger claw.
The people who worked there were amazing and were very willing to take pictures for us. All around I think it was very well run.
Los Angeles, CA 90036. They’re starting in LA but I believe they are going to take it on the road and go to other cities.
In the meantime grab some popcorn, your pet and put on something scary!
If you live in LA or are visiting in those months I highly recommend this exhibit. It was a blast, we were pretty sad when it was over.
